Let’s get into this topic with fresh positivity and motivation to come up with an amazing idea that will either kick-start your business or give you a fresh new perspective on which way you should be heading.
So before we start, let’s focus on one important thing. These tips on how to come up with great business ideas, are not only fresh while the season is lasting. Meaning, it is something important in which you should invest your time 365 days in a year. Maybe not so rigidly to make yourself work on it every day for 8 hours, but at least to brainstorm and make a timeline on every idea and goal.
After all, all great business women and men understand that the concept of an idea doesn’t just come to them and they immediately succeed. Of course not! Ideas do happen, but which one will lead you to a path of success is entirely up to you and the amount of work you put in.
Everything begins in the heart and mind as Walt Disney has thought us. Every great achievement began in the mind and heart of one person. They dared to dream, to believe that it was possible and they went after it. Why am I actually speaking about Walt Disney?
Here is a part of his success:
Walt Disney was an American entrepreneur, animator, voice actor and film producer. A pioneer of the American animation industry, he introduced several developments in the production of cartoons. As a film producer, Disney holds the record for most Academy Awards earned by an individual, having won 22 Oscars from 59 nominations. He was presented with two Golden Globe Special Achievement Awards and an Emmy Award, among other honors. Several of his films are included in the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress.
Now, why did I include all of that? It is simple: it shows a person can be anything he or she wants to be. It doesn’t matter the timeline of their life, it doesn’t matter how old he or she is, it just matters if you have a drive, a dream and a desire to do it. This man had all three. He was talented in discovering creative ideas and converting them into reality. Based on a close associate, he used to say:
“There were actually three different Walts: the dreamer, the realist, and the critic. You never knew which one was coming to the meeting.”
Although the method was not fully developed by Walt Disney, it bridges the gap between imagination and reality. The creative process unlocks the mind´s capabilities to dream and form unexpected ideas and solutions for existing ¨problems¨. However, these solutions may not be applicable in reality and may not be applied as a strategic plan. Therefore, one if the advantages of Disney´s creative strategy method is balancing between both dream and reality in order to build a viable layout.
How Does This Apply To You?
A lot of people tend to fly to close to the Sun and get burned. And by burned I mean that they tend to fly away in their air balloon which ends up popping when it goes too high. It is the same with ideas. If you dream far too much without having any anchor to the reality of it all, your dream will not go through to the finish line and you will not achieve a thing. On the other hand, if you listen to the critic way too much, the fear of failure will prevent you from seeing the real picture which is: YOU CAN ACHIEVE ANYTHING YOU SET YOUR MIND TO!
So to make it understandable:
You need the dreamer to come up with an amazing idea, you need the realist to point you in the right direction and you need the critic to keep it fresh and call you up on your BS.
Now that you know what it takes, let’s see how you can make all this happen.
Write Down All Your Ideas
I know a lot of you will say: ¨But, I’m here because I don’t have any ideas! ¨. I understand, but bear with me. Most of us have a lot of ideas circling in our head but we never really pay much attention to them based on our previous experiences. This doesn’t actually mean any of those ideas are bad, it just means you need to sort them out to what can a potentially be a good one.
Writing it all down helps with all this. This will allow you to brainstorm your brainstormed ideas, which will help you select a few in which you can invest your energy.
Here is how you start: Take some time to allow yourself to ask ¨What if? ¨ Think big. Don’t let negative thinking discourage you. You want to be a dreamer at this point in time. Dream of all the possibilities for yourself, your family and for others. If you had a dream that you discarded, go back to it and fan the flames. Life is too short to stay at that what if…so go for it! Write it all down on a piece of paper, a notebook, or one dream per page, however you want. The more the merrier, it doesn’t really matter how you define the idea, or if it is crazy and will not be achieved as easily, just write it down, be brave to say, this might happen!
So after you are done with this article, go straight ahead to the store and buy yourself a nice little notebook to write down all your ideas in. Find the perfect environment for yourself, one you feel most inspired in, and let your imagination run wild. Go through all the old boxes in your brain where you stored these potential amazing business ideas and write it down, one by one. After all this, go over your ideas, and find the ones you think are most possible to achieve. But be realistic and be your own critic.
Find What You Are Good At
Now this is a big important part of finding that business idea. Think about what you are good at. And please be realistic. Don’t insult yourself, don’t cut yourself short, don’t undermine your own efforts and don’t be cruel to yourself. I am saying this because on a daily basis I encounter a lot of people who call themselves: idiot, stupid, incompetent, and even more. Sure there can be the excuse of low self-confidence. But guess what: confidence is not something we are born with, so find out something more about that in my previous articles that might help.
So c’mon, forget humility and being humble, go inside your amazing heart and mind and tell me in the comments what you are good at. After which you can start working on your idea. Why did I tell you to do this? Simply because in order to succeed in business you need to find what you are good at and sell that skill.
You might think that what you can do good, isn’t as good as other people do it, but you are wrong. If you can organise a closet in an amazing and quick way, or write down amazing stories, have a beautiful voice, whatever that is you do what you do, it will be easy to show off your skill to a company or people who will appreciate it. So don’t cut yourself short.
But in reality, in which you can’t find any skills you can use for your advantage, it is time to call your friend and go grab a cup of refreshing coffee. Ask your friend what your skills are and what he or she thinks you could use to your advantage. This will give you a new perspective and fresh eyes to use as feedback in your current work in progress.
See All the Bad Comments And Use Them
Social media is filled with swift responses and people sharing their opinion on your work or other people. Possibly, even hiding behind their own monitor and sharing their unsolicited thoughts. So there is no point in feeling bad when you read something. You can actually learn from all those comments and use them to see what bothers you and what you can turn into a positive. Of course negative comments often sting as you can see not everyone is liking your product or idea, but at the end of the day, you can see what you can do better and smarter next time.
So invest your time into going over negative comments and find what bothers you and just try to do it better, quicker and cheaper. That would be the winning combination of your new product if you are interested in something like so. If not, focus on what people commented on other websites. This way people usually write what can be better, not just the bad review. So use their knowledge to invest into your idea. Nobody says that the winning idea has to be only your own. There is this thing called inspiration. So don’t hesitate to enter a few keywords once you read all your written ideas and see what people have to say!
Talk To People Who Inspire You
We all have people who we look up to, people who we already saw had great ideas and invested into them successfully. We have a unique opportunity today to find those people on social media, follow them and maybe even reach out asking for advice or feedback on your website, your work or even your thoughts. Most of them are humble people who remember how it was to be in your place, so there is no need to feel ashamed if you say something you think is silly.
Remember: there are no bad ideas, it is just about shaping them into the right one.
So find the people you admire and aspire to be like them, and reach out to them. Tell them your story and ideas you have for the future and ask them for a hand. Their advice can be exactly what you need, or at least will give you a push in the right direction. You have nothing to lose. After all, they found what they were good at, and went for it, in spite of the risk or possible negative outcomes.
The only question is: would you rather be a person who dreamed amazing adventures or the one who lived them?
Forget Your Comfort Zone
There is something special about the comfort, security and stability of our comfort zone, but amazing things rarely happen inside of it. So I know leaving your comfort zone is a bit of a risk and there is anxiety involved in all that, but at the end of the day, leaving it, can and may result in you achieving your ideas. So why not at least try?
I will give you a good reason! Comfort kills productivity, motivation and positivity. We are so used to habituate inside of our comfort zone that we rarely put any effort into things that we work on because we know things will happen on its own. It is the place of least positive results. Sure the comfort zone is neither positive nor negative, it just is, but at least you won’t lose the drive and ambition to do more and learn new things. So if you are asking me I am all for the extra effort and little more anxiety if it will mean I will get to where I want to be. So just dream big and dream bold. I’m pretty sure this will result in amazing ideas.
Of course, all of these tips have one thing in common: it takes time and patience to find the right idea. You can’t expect the right idea to just appear to you and for you to feel 100% confident about its result. This will mean you got to work for it. So after brainstorming your brain for all the ideas, seeing what the market needs, seeing how you can do it better than someone else, and doing all that in spite of fear, I can’t see why can’t find a killer idea that will take you to the end zone and succeed!
